UNESCO's Education actions in South Africa during 1998/1999 attempted to respond to the curriculum transformation process. In mid-1998, the Pretoria Office was re-enforced with additional Education Staff and a purposeful effort was made toward continuity while paying particular attention to emerging issues and concerns arising from the reform process and the new Curriculum.

A number of Education Programme activities in South Africa --- on-going, or in the pipeline --- outlined below, provide a useful basis of exploring co-operative links between South Africa and other African countries, especially in the SADC sub-region, within the framework of the follow-up to MINEDAF VII.
