Secretariat
The Secretariat of the Intergovernmental
Committee of MINEDAF VII is presently based at the UNESCO
Regional Office in Dakar. The Secretariat is the executive arm of the
Committee.
Functions of the Secretariat
- to provide advisory services to the President and Members of the
Intergovernmental Committee, as required
- to carry out all Secretariat duties and any other tasks assigned to it
The Secretariat works closely with relevant units at UNESCO Headquarters,
including the MINEDAF VII Intersectoral Task Force,
UNESCO Field Offices in Africa, and the
organizations and institutions of the African Member States, including the National
Commissions for UNESCO, other relevant units of Ministries of Education,
national universities, non-governmental organizations, etc. Such collaboration
is intended to foster synergy between various UNESCO actions, including its
Follow-up to MINEDAF VII and its Education Programme in the different African
countries.
Executive Secretary
The Executive Secretary is responsible for
the day to day administration of the Secretariat and for the execution of the
programme of work approved by the Committee. In this regard, s/he works closely with the Minister
of Education of South Africa, presently, the President of the
Intergovernmental Committee, and his Senior Aides.
The position of Executive Secretary is held by Mr.
Armoogum Parsuramen, Director of UNESCO Regional Office for Education
in Africa (BREDA Dakar, Sénégal).
