Important Policy Reports and Documents

World Education Forum, Dakar, Senegal, 26-28 April 2000

The World Education Forum examined progress towards the goal of Education for All (EFA). The policy questions it addressed were the following: How well have countries delivered on their EFA commitment? Which strategies accelerate the provision of basic education? How can countries make the EFA dream a reality? The Forum set priorities for the 21st Century.

The Forum was convened by UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF and the World Bank. It was attended by hundreds of national leaders, United Nations agency heads, education policy-makers and practitioners.

The venue of the World Education Forum was the Conference Centre of Le Méridien Président Hotel in Dakar.

Six regional preparatory conferences examined the findings of in-depth assessments of basic education and the recommendations presented to the World Education Forum. The sub-Saharan Africa conference was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 6-10 December 1999. The regional meeting for the Arab States and North Africa was held in Cairo, Egypt, on 24-27 January 2000.
