African Development Community
Technical Meeting of the
Secretariats (Pretoria, 18 May 2000)
In the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding
between UNESCO
and SADC the
Secretariats of both Organizations are in regular contact on technical matters
of mutual interest. The need for such regular consultations has
been emphasized in various official exchanges, especially during the Meetings of
Experts preceding the SADC
Consultative Conference with International Cooperating Partners (Lusaka,
February 1999) and at the OAU
Conference of African Ministers (Harare, March 1999).

The consultation focused on SADC-UNESCO cooperation in several
educational areas, in particular:
A UNESCO Briefing Note on the Consultation is
available.
An invitation was extended to the UNESCO
Secretariat to participate in a SADC Meeting of Experts (in Lusaka,
19-21 June 2000). The Executive Secretary of MINEDAF VII
(Dr. John Nkinyangi)
attended.
