MINEDAF VII and Other Initiatives
Decision of African Heads of State and Government on Conference of African Ministers of Education

The proposals approved by the COMEDAF Bureau of Ministers (at their meeting in Bamako, Mali, 31 May - 1 June 1999) were later presented (by the OAU Council of [Foreign] Ministers) to the Summit of African Heads of State and Government (held in Algiers, Algeria, on 12-14 July 1999). The support of the Heads of State and Government was considered absolutely critical if African countries were to reassert the priority and lead role of education as an essential tool for renewal and development in the region.
