The World Conference on Science was organized by
UNESCO in cooperation with the International Council for Science
(ICSU),
from 26 June to 1 July 1999 in Budapest, Hungary, to help strengthen the
commitment of UNESCO's Member States and other major stakeholders towards
science education, research and development, and to define a strategy that
would ensure that science responds better to society's needs and
aspirations in the twenty-first century.
